The State Border Service of Ukraine is planning to introduce joint border controls at six checkpoints on the border with Poland during the Euro 2012 European Football Championship, the chairman of the service, Mykola Lytvyn, has said.

He told reporters that joint border controls would be introduced at six automobile crossing points on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

He said that Ukrainian and Polish border guards would work together to check individuals who arrive for the championship.

"Joint checks will be launched since April or May, but now technology is being coordinated and joint training sessions are being conducted so that we were prepared for this," Lytvyn said.

He also added that the issue concerned temporary joint border controls with Poland only during the football tournament.
